Fibromyalgia Depression

By Carly Murphy

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by long-term pain, sleep disorders, fatigue, depressive disorders, headaches, bowel problems and many other conditions. Fibromyalgia effects up to 10 million Americans, with up to 90% of patients being female. There isn't any known cure for Fibromyalgia but numerous treatment methods exist.

Depression is a quite common symptom associated with Fibromyalgia with scientific studies showing 30% of sufferers have problems with major Fibromyalgia and depression during the time of diagnosis with Fibromyalgia and 20% struggling with generalized anxiety disorder. It is believed that as much as 80% of individuals diagnosed with Fibromyalgia suffer from some amount of depression. Classic depression related problems experienced by people that have Fibromyalgia consist of worry, anxiety, irritability, sadness, and a general lack of interest in life.

Although no specific causes have been confirmed relative to Fibromyalgia, at this time there is evidence that indicates key causal factors that have an impact on both Fibromyalgia and the depression so common to it. Some causes connected to Fibromyalgia include problems in brain chemicals associated with nerve signal transmission, specifically nerve signals associated with pain. Trauma, both psychological and physical, are also revealed as potential causal factors linked to Fibromyalgia. Genetics also is suspected of playing a role.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by causal symptoms. This refers to the propensity for symptoms to feed on each other and build a continuing pattern of symptoms interacting in a downward spiral. These "negative feedback loops" include causal symptoms which lead to other conditions getting a whole lot worse. For example, a Fibromyalgia affected individual can experience chronic severe pain. This pain may cause trouble sleeping which leads to fatigue. The fatigue and pain can easily foster depression which feeds weight gain, stress and anxiety that all play a role in promoting Fibromyalgia pain.

Treating despression symptoms in Fibromyalgia is more difficult than dealing with depression as a stand alone concern. It is very important establish how and when depression is presenting itself and work to identify its relationship with Fibromyalgia symptoms. This will permit a practice of targeting treatment options not only at the depression itself but at the various other Fibromyalgia symptoms that could be feeding the depression.

Treatment options include pharmaceutical drugs like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and Wellbutrin together with various other potential pharmaceutical choices. There are several research proven alternative treatment options for depression with St. Johns Wort and SAMe both previously being demonstrated by means of multiple scientific studies as being equally as helpful as depression drug treatments for a lot of patients. Patients must coordinate with their physician to make the best longterm option and ensure no adverse drug interactions are suffered.

Fibromyalgia patients also tend to exhibit marked improvement for their depression and its impact on their other Fibromyalgia symptoms when treatment options are applied. Among the many treatment therapy options; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Modification Therapy and traditional Psychological Therapy have shown excellent results.

Why You Should Opt For A Fibromyalgia Diet

By Cheryl Austin

If you are trying to gain insight on what a fibromyalgia diet should include, then the Internet is a good place to start. Look online for articles written on this subject and see what you come up with. Family and friends might also be able to offer you information, especially if they have had similar problems in the past. This is easy to fix, as long as you take your health seriously and commit to making a few changes.

As it happens with most conditions, the first and last thing you need to change is your lifestyle. Any health problem that shows up is the result of a bad diet, the lack of exercise and a stressful daily life. If all these things are removed from your life, then not only you will manage to cure yourself from fibromyalgia, but you will protect your body from other potential future issues.

Most patients complain about constant fatigue and lethargy. Lack of energy and feeling unmotivated are very common in cases like this. After a fibromyalgia diagnosis, what you need to focus on is changing a few things about your eating habits and exercising regularly. These changes will help you build your energy levels back up naturally and fight fatigue.

Remove chocolate, alcohol, coffee and soda drinks from your daily eating routine altogether. In general, try to avoid high fat foods and anything that contains too much salt or too much sugar. Fried or processed foods should be eliminated too. Stock up in foods rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Take food supplements if needed and drink plenty of water.

Quitting smoking, eating junk food and red meat are three further changes that will help you reach your goals. Try to exercise on a daily basis, even if it is only for half an hour each day. Drink plenty of water, eight to ten glasses a day and avoid sitting in the sun for too long.

All these things will help you fight stress, anxiety and fatigue. It might take longer than a drug or any other quick fix, like alcohol and coffee, would require, but when it happens, it will be for good. These changes offer you the chance of staying energized all throughout the day and feeling fresh for an extended period of time.

If you decide to make a move towards a healthier lifestyle, then you will no doubt help your body function better in every aspect. A fibromyalgia diet can treat not only this condition, but any other problem you might be facing. Make the necessary changes today and enjoy a healthier you, tomorrow.

Migranes and Fibromyalgia

By Dr. Steven Yen

Although fibromyalgia and migraines are 2 different conditions with two different sets of signs and symptoms, they share MANY likenesses. Unlike fibromyalgia, migraines have a way more specific and well outlined signs and symptoms. That being said, there are lots of overlaps between the 2 conditions and many fibromyalgia patients also suffer from migraine headaches, and many migraine patients are eventually diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

They truth is that both fibromyalgia and migraines are multifaceted conditions with multiples causes leading to each conditions. Like previously mentioned, many factors that cause migraines may also cause fibromyalgia. One of the most typical causes of migraines is trigger points at the upper trapezius muscles and the rhomboid muscles, and these trigger points are also present in fibromyalgia patients.

Another typical cause of migraines is impediment of cranial movement causing cranial faults leading to head tensions, and again, this isn't unusual in fibromyalgia patients. Food sensitiveness is another widespread cause for fibromyalgia, and again, it's also one of the things which lead to fibromyalgia.

As there are so many overlaps between migraines and fibromyalgia, many treatment choices can benefit both fibromyalgia and migraine patients. Strengthening the rhomboid and neck extensor muscles will be crucial in relieving migraines. Slackening the suboccipital muscles with a tennis ball can seriously reduce the intensity of a migraine.

Both of these will also help in reducing fibromyalgia discomfort. Cranial sacral treatments had been show to reduce both fibromyalgia and migraine symptoms and should be included in the treatments plans. Additionally, patients need to spot food they're sensitive to and eliminate these as much as humanly possible from their diet.

None of these will eliminate fibromyalgia or migraines absolutely on its own, but the accumulative results of doing all of these together can be substantial and can offer dramatic enhancements to both fibromyalgia and migraines sufferers.

Fibromyalgia Treatment

By Dr. Steven Yen

There's no one single cure for Fibromyalgia. And there's no single treatment which will address all the fibromyalgia symptoms immediately. As an alternative for the successful treatment of Fibromyalgia , a wide range of traditional and alternative treatments has been shown to be effective in treating this tough syndrome. Therapy program may include a combination of medications, exercises - both strengthening and aerobic conditioning - and behavior methods.

Reduce stress -Develop plans to avoid or limit overexertion and emotional stress. Permit yourself a little time each day to relax. Which will mean learning the way to say no without guilt. But try hard not to change your routine totally. Folks who quit work or drop all activity have a tendency to do worse than those that stay active. Try anxiety management methodologies, such as deep-breathing exercises or meditation.

Get enough sleep -Because fatigue is one of the main characteristics of fibromyalgia, getting enough sleep is vital. In addition to distributing enough time for sleep, practice good sleep habits, for example retiring to bed and getting up at the same time each day and limiting daytime napping.

Exercise frequently -At first, exercise may boost your discomfort. But doing it steadily and regularly regularly decreases symptoms. Acceptable exercises may include walking, swimming, biking and water aerobics. A physical therapist will help you develop a home exercising plan. Stretching, good posture and relaxing techniques also are helpful.

Pace yourself -Keep your activity on an even level. If you do too much on your good days, you will have more bad days. Moderation means not "overdoing it" on your good days, but similarly it means not self-limiting or doing "too little" on the times when symptoms flare.

M aintain a good lifestyle - Eat sensible food. Restrict your caffeine intake. Do something you find delightful and fulfilling each day.

Fibromyalgia Drugs

To date, 3 drugs are approved by the FDA for treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica was first authorised as an anti-seizure drugs till it was approved by the FDA for fibromyalgia treatment in June 2008. Cymbalta, and Savella are both SNRI (Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibator) and were built to treat major depressive disorder.

Guaifenesin, an over the counter drug first accepted by to FDA to thin out the mucus of your respiration track to help breath less complicated have been made popular for treatment of fibromyalgia by Doctor. St. Amand and his Guaifenesin Custom and his book "What your Doctor may not Tell you About Fibromyalgia: The revolutionary treatment that can reverse the disease." Guaifenesin is said to help relief fibromyalgia due to its capability to accelerate the excretion of uric acid in your body, and by removing excess phsophate from your body.

Alternative Fibromyalgia Treatments

Sadly, many drug programmes and normal medicinal treatments incorrectly target the relief of symptoms rather than the removal of the condition. This often leads patients to experience some short term relief, but they regularly suffer long-term as their bodies are run ragged by the doses. While many doctors will sadly focus on the symptoms, there are several alternative fibromyalgia treatments available you can begin using to manage symptoms.

The Prevalence And Symptoms Of Fibromyalgia

By Alex Blaken

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a challenging, chronic problem which at present has no acknowledged cause or cure. Typically the symptoms most acknowledged with fibromyalgia usually are aches and pains and low energy. However, it may also result in a variety of other conditions for instance body stiffness, gastro-intestinal and urinary difficulties, sleep issues and headaches. These problems will likely come and go, increase or decrease, plus keep moving around the rest of the body.

As a result, the problem is very tough to recognise and oftentimes misdiagnosed. The differentiating element of fibromyalgia, however, is localized discomfort from numerous sensitive locations ("trigger points"), especially in the neck, spine, shoulders, and hips. These hyperactive sites can lead to severe pain if stress is applied to them, but at other times may not hurt at all. Fibromyalgia might not be life-threatening, yet, depending on the intensity of the signs or symptoms, the affliction can be utterly draining and generate substantial challenges with the everyday life of the afflicted.

The lack of physical irregularities can make it tough to detect fibromyalgia syndrome. Nevertheless, in accordance with one estimate, two percent of Americans (which includes a lot of older women), might have the condition, which causes it to be the second most commonly seen rheumatic condition in the United States. Fibromyalgia mainly bothers women. Up to 90 percent of patients going to a physician with warning signs of this condition are women - and the disease normally first happens between the ages of 20 and 60. As this affliction is poorly recognized and challenging to understand, it is not out of the ordinary for several years to pass from the start of problems and an analysis of them. Thankfully, more health professionals have recently come to recognize the group of indications that may define fibromyalgia.

As interesting as it appears, a lot of physicians and research workers consider that in relation to factors behind fibromyalgia that anxiety may be a important cause. Fibromyalgia is really a multifaceted phenomenon and healthcare researchers are of the opinion that presently there are an array of issues to blame for inducing it. Researchers are consistently looking at various data for the factors that cause fibromyalgia. The majority feel that a combination of physiological problems and long-term stress may be the elusive factor. Nevertheless, some health professionals still mistakenly think that fibromyalgia is a psychosomatic challenge rather than a proper medical issue. This belief does little to support fibromyalgia patients and can end up with them feeling demoralized, disheartened, as well as despairing.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia have been observed to range in intensity from one person to another, ranging from slight to extremely devastating. On top of that, the problems change from day-to-day or from month-to-month. Whilst signs and symptoms may perhaps be really unpleasant and often lead to psychological stress, they almost never cause long term physical damage. They can differ in power and often wax and wane with time. There tend to be a range of factors that may appear to intensify or trigger symptoms for instance - chilly conditions, gusty winds, differences in the weather conditions, air pressure, hot temperatures, tension, infections, allergic reactions, high humidity, hormonal fluctuations and over-exertion. Symptoms might include long-term head pain, exhaustion, lapses in memory, jaw pain, sensitivity reactions to various chemicals, dizziness, cramps with menstruation, irritable bowel syndrome, interrupted sleep, muscular aches, morning stiffness, numbness and tingling feelings and dizziness. Fibromyalgia is affected by gender, age, sleep disorders and genetic disposition. There are a variety of factors that seem to aggravate or set off symptoms such as - cold environments, wind gusts, shifts in the climate, air pressure, high temperatures, emotional strain, bacterial infestations, allergy symptoms, humidity, hormone level changes and over-exercising.

What is Fibromyalgia and what am I able to do about it?

By Bruce Lewis

Fibromyalgia syndrome is frequently exposed as a wide-spread discomfort affecting either side of your body, above and below the waistline as well as pain within the axial skeletal system (spinal column) that continues for a minimum of 3 months. Fibromyalgia syndrome is really a muscular disorder that causes muscle cramping, muscle seizures, burning, and/or pins and needles sensations across the body. Fibromyalgia syndrome is a consistent condition, which means it'll last rather a long time - maybe a whole life. It's an affliction mainly distinguished by wide-spread muscled pains and fatigue.

Exhaustion and sleep issues undoubtedly are a major characteristic connected with Fibromyalgia syndrome. Fatigue, pain, and delicate points on your body are among the commonest evidence of Fibromyalgia. Fatigue is the term for a feeling of exhaustion during or after common day to day activities, or a lack of energy to begin these activities. You will get over your bad night's sleep by mid-day, but by afternoon you'll get so worn out and slow as well as sleepy that it will be difficult to do your job.

Symptoms are influenced by weather conditions and activities, as well as by time (some have reported worse pain in the morning and also in the evening hours). Signs and evidence of bipolar sickness that Doctor. Phelps sees as an element of his Fibromyalgia patients include things like: Extreme sleep derangement, cyclic re-occurrences, becoming easily irritated and difficulty concentrating. Fibromyalgia symptoms can overlap with autoimmune sicknesses along with other musculoskeletal conditions which makes it difficult to diagnose.

Medical diagnosis is actually troublesome and often overlooked just because signs and evidence of Fibromyalgia are imprecise and generalized. Coexistent neurological and muscle-bound abnormalities for example rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, spinal metastatic inflammation, or Lyme disease may very well further complicate the diagnostic process. Correct diagnosis of Fibromyalgia syndrome is difficult by the actual fact that there's no single test that perceives it. Proper diagnosis of Fibromyalgia syndrome is entirely based upon signs and symptoms that are offered and on an actual physical examination.

Treatments for Fibromyalgia syndrome involve Physical Therapy which happens to be hands on manual treatment strategy as opposed to passive methods like heat and ultrasound. Treatment strategy for Fibromyalgia syndrome can come in numerous different forms, which includes prescription medicine and self guidance. In many instances, the main focus from the treatment solutions are on reducing the symptoms of the disease.

Massage treatment is a favorable way to cope with Fibromyalgia syndrome. Massaging Treatment is one of the earliest approaches of health care in practice nowadays, and consists of manipulation of a spread of soft tissues and muscle groupings in the entire body. Massage Chairs has been revealed to be beneficial in handling Fibromyalgia syndrome. Healing massage treatments are basically one of the most beneficial treatment choices for Fibromyalgia syndrome pain and fatigue. Massaging treatment has been seen to be particularly useful in some individuals with Fibromyalgia syndrome. Massage Treatments is the up and coming stage for treatment alternatives for Fibromyalgia syndrome. Massage chairs has assisted many sufferers from over used muscles, high levels of stress and painful chronic health conditions like Fibromyalgia.

What Benefits Fibromyalgia Sufferers

By John Gardner

HTP is a very beneficial drug for a lot of diseases that have to do with depression, anxiety and insomnia. Many people, suffering from the terrible disease fibromyalgia, are trying out HTP, a very potent natural dietary supplement, to help them. Mounting evidence shows it's quite possible that L-5-hydroxytryptophan, or 5HTP, can improve the symptoms of those suffering from the chronic pain and lack of energy associated with fibromyalgia syndrome.

Every person, suffering from fibromyalgia, seems to have a set of symptoms, that they present. These include painful sensations spread over large areas of the body and an achy stiffness and pressure-sensitive tenderness in multiple locations, lasting three months or more. People suffering from fibromyalgia have digestive disorders, lack of regular sleep and they almost always complain about lack of energy. Frequent headaches, facial discomfort, and neck and shoulder stiffness are also commonly observed. The sensitivity of the patients gets heightened during the disease, creating intolerance to odors, loudness, bright or low lights, but there are other symptoms as well like tingling or numbness in hands and feet, swelling in the joints, skin loses moisture, they feel disoriented and complain of chest pain. Persons suffering from fibromyalgia have a chronic tendency of depression and easily experience anxiety.

A number of research articles have appeared in the Journal of International Medical Research on the relationship between an improvement in fibromyalgia and 5HTP regimens. A unique study has announced that the use of 5HTP has very beneficiary effects on the symptoms of fibromyalgia. A second study went on to confirm the announcements, and enhanced it, by stating that at least 50% of the fibromyalgia patients reported a sustained relief of the symptoms.

5HTP has proven to positively impact a variety of symptoms of fibromyalgia, but it is most effective in reducing pain, sleeplessness and depression. There are many other benefits, the most interesting of them is minimizing carbohydrate cravings, which directly acts as an aid to weight loss. Obesity often goes hand-in-hand with fibromyalgia because of lessened physical activity.

5HTP is usually produced from Griffonia plant seeds. Our body takes 5HTP, which are essentially amino acids, and changes them to serotonin. For those who do not know, serotonin is the neurotransmitter which is answerable for the moods and controls hunger. It's transformed into melatonin, which regulates sleep, in the pineal gland of the brain. One could opt for another known amino acid called tryptophan, which is quite similar to 5HTP in properties, with two major differences, namely it cannot processed by the body so easily and does not have results, that are as efficient.

There seems to be a direct relationship between fibromyalgia and the low quantity of serotonin in the body. From the observations, it is easy to arrive at the hypothesis that when the body is unable to produce enough serotonin, it leads to fibromyalgia and related symptoms, pending scientific confirmation. There are also multiple studies, which seem to conclusively prove, that a high amount of serotonin in the brain has shown direct relief in the symptoms of fibromyalgia. In the most common cases, a dosage of 300mg is prescribed to be taken, in three equal parts, with the major meals of the day, accompanied by a full glass of water. Before you start taking the supplement 5HTP, it would be smart to seek medical advice and recommendation. It is important that you seek medical advice and avoid taking 5HTP when you are already taking medication to control depression or anti-Parkinson's disease.
