Migranes and Fibromyalgia

By Dr. Steven Yen

Although fibromyalgia and migraines are 2 different conditions with two different sets of signs and symptoms, they share MANY likenesses. Unlike fibromyalgia, migraines have a way more specific and well outlined signs and symptoms. That being said, there are lots of overlaps between the 2 conditions and many fibromyalgia patients also suffer from migraine headaches, and many migraine patients are eventually diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

They truth is that both fibromyalgia and migraines are multifaceted conditions with multiples causes leading to each conditions. Like previously mentioned, many factors that cause migraines may also cause fibromyalgia. One of the most typical causes of migraines is trigger points at the upper trapezius muscles and the rhomboid muscles, and these trigger points are also present in fibromyalgia patients.

Another typical cause of migraines is impediment of cranial movement causing cranial faults leading to head tensions, and again, this isn't unusual in fibromyalgia patients. Food sensitiveness is another widespread cause for fibromyalgia, and again, it's also one of the things which lead to fibromyalgia.

As there are so many overlaps between migraines and fibromyalgia, many treatment choices can benefit both fibromyalgia and migraine patients. Strengthening the rhomboid and neck extensor muscles will be crucial in relieving migraines. Slackening the suboccipital muscles with a tennis ball can seriously reduce the intensity of a migraine.

Both of these will also help in reducing fibromyalgia discomfort. Cranial sacral treatments had been show to reduce both fibromyalgia and migraine symptoms and should be included in the treatments plans. Additionally, patients need to spot food they're sensitive to and eliminate these as much as humanly possible from their diet.

None of these will eliminate fibromyalgia or migraines absolutely on its own, but the accumulative results of doing all of these together can be substantial and can offer dramatic enhancements to both fibromyalgia and migraines sufferers.
